Labor is such an awaited event in life of a couple. It changes everything in their daily routine including sexual life. Usually a woman discovers her new sensual side after becoming a mother. She finally comes into full opening of her femininity and her sexual feelings become much brighter. But it will not happen at once. Labor is a serious stress for a female organism and she needs certain period of time to recover.

Doctors do not recommend coming back to intimate life earlier than 6-8 after labor. During this period a woman’s uterus, stretched by a baby, comes back to its usual size. Pelvic and vaginal muscles gain their usual tonus, the bleeding stops. Also the traumas and stitches are recovering or the scar tissue after C-section is formed.

But sometimes, even after this time passes, a woman can feel discomfort and pain during sex. This syndrome is called dyspaurenia. It should not be left without attention, because it can grow into sexual dysfunction inside the couple. Harmony in sexual life is very important for the relationship. If it is absent, a couple alienates from each other, cheats appear and it all can end with divorce.

Post-labor dyspaurenia can be of two types – superficial and deep. Superficial dyspaurenia characterizes by discomfort and pain at the moment when penis enters vagina. When it is a deep form, these feelings are localized deeper in vagina, in lower part of stomach, in the loin area.

The reasons of post-labor dyspaurenia appearance may be rather different. First of all, it may be cause by damage of pelvic and vaginal muscles during labor, like tears or operations on them. Stitching does not always allow full reconstruction of their anatomy. So the innervation and blood circulation changes and it influences sexual feelings.

Also the reason can be infections, spinal pathologies, hormonal changes, ligament tears and inflammatory diseases. Consult your gynecologist in queens nyc for determining the reason and treatment appointment.
